Faith & Confidence | The Sign of Jonas

Faith & Confidence | The Sign of Jonas

Has there ever been something you knew you were supposed to do but you ran away from it for fear that you wouldn't be successful? Did you know that faith and confidence are linked? One of the main reasons why we don't do the things God has called us to do is because we lack confidence. Subconsciously we feel insecure about showing up as a beginner. It makes me think of the biblical story of Jonas. For a time he ran from his calling as a prophet because he lacked self-confidence about his message. If you don't know the story it goes something like this. Yah told Jonas to go to Nineveh to tell the inhabitants to repent of their sin. Well Jonas was like yea, naw big homie I aint doing it, so he ran in the opposite direction of God's will. He ended up on a boat with a few other men. While on the boat a storm came and the boat was tossing to a fro. In fear, the men cast a lot to see why this great storm had come upon them and the lot fell on Jonas. He had already told them he was running from the God of Israel but now he repeats it and gives them a solution. He says, if you throw me over, the storm will stop. At first they don't listen, possibly not wanting to have a guilty conscience about throwing a man over to his death, but ultimately they do when the storm grows more turbulent. As soon as he's off the boat, the storm ceases and a whale picks Jonas up. Now you may be familiar with this part of the story because this is when Jonas is in the belly of the whale three days. After this Jonas goes to Ninevah to preach repentance. He tells them the wrath of God is going to destroy their city if they do not. Here he was facing his fear that no one would listen and aligning to his calling and yet, what do you know, the people listened and repented. As a result Yah has mercy on them and withdraws his wrath. Jonas doesn't understand at first because he was expecting the worst and felt he was a failure since God performed a miracle. All he could think of was how he looked like a liar. Here is when Yah goes to him and places a cloud over him to give him shade while he was in self-pity, then caused the cloud to pour rain. This was God showing him even he needs mercy. I say all this to say, up until today you may have needed a shift in perspective on your calling. Perhaps Yah wants to use you to display His miracles because let's face it, your purpose is not about you. It's FOR others! Jesus says this generation will not have a sign but the sign of Jonas. So my question is are you running? Elohim told me to tell you, SURRENDER, and GET OUT OF HIS WAY!

A wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given unto it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas. And he left them, and departed.

Matthew 16:4
