This post is gonna be a little different from those I’ve written in the past. I typically don’t write posts in first person, but I decided to here because I wanna get a little personal with this piece.
The legendary Al Green recorded a song called My God Is Real and released it in 1973 on his Livin’ for You album. The opening of the song features the following lyrics:

They’re some things/I may not know/There are some places/That I can’t go/But I am sure/Of His love, He loves me so/My God is real/For I can feel/Him in my soul
I have always loved this song; even before I developed a relationship with Christ, this song resonated with me in a way that was always special. Not only does the song contain a great melody, but you can also feel every word Al Green is singing. He wrote it during a time when he found Jesus amidst a very successful run of hit records and albums. And although the music he was making at the time wasn’t gospel, songs like My God Is Real definitely informed you that he knew who God was. You could decipher from listening to a song like that that Al Green had a relationship with God that truly meant something to him. He cherished it. He was dedicated to it. He was passionate about it. And if you tried to tell him that God wasn’t real, you’d be wasting your breath. He knew that he knew that he knew. Well, I’m like Al Green. My God is REAL. Real in my soul. There is nothing in this world that could make me doubt Him. I’ve experienced Him in my life. He is an experience. Really and truly.
I was reminded of God’s realness when I heard the story about the four children who survived 40 days in the Amazon jungle after a plane crash. There were three adults on board the plane with the children who didn’t survive the plane crash; one of them was the children’s mother. The ages of the kids: 13, 9, 4, and 1. They were found thin with various insect bites and wounds from the crash, but they were found. ALIVE. BREATHING. CONSCIOUS. These four babies survived for a little over a month in conditions that would be an enormous challenge for most adults. Several news reports stated that the oldest sibling, a girl, had some prior knowledge about the Amazon jungle that she read about and was able to lean on some of that to help her and her younger siblings out. One article that I read stated that the children had a little bit of “luck” on their side because the fruit was plentiful as the jungle was in a harvest. A bit of luck? Nah, I don’t think so.
Those children had a little bit of God on their side out there. Correction: they had a lot of bit of God on their side. Sure, the jungle being in a harvest providing plentiful fruit certainly helped. But why does the jungle go through that harvest to produce the fruit? Who kept those children from instant death when the plane crashed? Who protected them throughout those 40 days in the jungle from all sorts of wild animals and other imminent dangers? It wasn’t Lady Luck; IT WAS JEHOVAH!!! THERE’S NO OTHER EXPLANATION!!! It was God. He’s as real as whatever device you’re reading this on. It’s as simple as that. Whether those babies realize it or not, God was with them out there and they experienced Him in a way none of us can really and fully relate to. I understand they lost their mother in the crash and may one day—if one or some of them haven’t already—question why God didn’t spare her life also. I don’t have the answer to that, but I do know God has a plan, and His plan is always perfect. We may not always understand it or agree with it, but God doesn’t require our understanding nor our agreement to carry out His perfect will. He is El Shaddai. God Almighty. His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts. He knows what He’s doing, and He never fails.
Final Thoughts | God Is Real!
One day, these kids are going to tell their story in their own words. It will be interesting to hear how they articulate the events from their point of view. The two youngest probably won’t be able to recall any of what happened and will have to mostly rely on their eldest siblings’ accounts. But I hope and pray that they develop a relationship with the one who brought them through such an unfathomable, frightening, and overwhelming time in their young lives. I pray that they get to know the Creator for themselves. That they don’t harbor any resentment over losing their mother in such a terrible way. I pray that they experience God in the most personal way possible. So that they know that they know that they know. He's real.

I love this topic because I know there is a difference between revelation and information. Many say they believe on God but not because of revelation. They have been taught about God but have yet to experience Him for themselves. There is one scripture in the Bible where a man (Nicodemus) comes to see Jesus at midnight and tells him that they (the pharisees) know that he is the Messiah although they were questioning and denying it publicly and Jesus said to him it must have been the spirit that revealed this to him because God says we should worship in spirit and truth (Holy Ghost). Of course I am summarizing and paraphrasing here. In scripture he says unless a…
