Relationships | "Dear Love" Series : I am Ready for Love

Updated: Feb 28, 2024

dear love series, I am ready for love

This morning I woke up with India Arie's I am ready for love playing in my head. I couldn't help but think how fitting since today is part 3 of our "Dear Love" series. I mean this is the month of love so it only makes sense that people are feeling the desire to connect. One way God often gets a message to me is by way of song so I knew I was meant to look further into this. I was led to look up the lyrics. I am familiar with the song but it's been a minute since I've heard it. Though India is expressing she is ready for love, she feels it could be hiding from her. She even says perhaps love feels she's not mature enough but if you'd ask her tomorrow if she was ready, her answer would be the same. She insists she is ready for love! Her stance is so relatable. Automatically I visualized the scenario. Take a moment to tap into your imagination as I paint the picture. You meet a guy randomly at a coffee shop and there's something about him you can't quite pin point but you feel intuitively this person is special, perhaps there's something here you're meant to explore. We won't call it love at first sight but I do believe in "when you know, you know." This guy gives you that feeling. But here's the hiccup. The timing couldn't seem more off. Yes, you're single, yes, you've prayed for this person and opportunity but are you really available? Is your heart open to receive? This is that immaturity she is speaking to. Often we ask God for things we think we are ready for but if He really gave it to us at that moment, would we be? In other words, is your house in order? Have you prepared for the blessing you're asking for?

God's Timing is Perfect

There is a reason God takes His time fulfilling His promises. It'd be absolutely devastating to receive your wish fulfillment and mishandle it. Talk about fumbling the bag! Here is why we must continue in prayer to God even after we get what we prayed for. We need the strategy to properly steward the blessing. God is so gracious He helps us develop the character required to maintain the promise just like He did David even before He fulfills it. He even helps us get our house in order.

Getting Our House in Order

So let's get into it! How do we prepare for the promise? I've narrowed it down to 3 simple steps. Of course each step has a detailed process but even those are unique to the individual but the blueprint is the same. We must build our house on the Holy Trinity principle, mind, body and soul!

Cultivate a Spiritual Fitness Practice

This could look like beefing up your prayer and fasting life and if you don't have one you need to start NOW! Our chief aim is to keep GOD FIRST in everything we do and marriage is no different. Starting reading and meditating on God's word in the mornings and or night. Remember it is your daily bread and man should not live on bread alone but by every word that precedes out of God's mouth.

Cultivate a Physical Fitness Practice

Your body is a temple and sanctuary of the LORD and He dwells within. Start eating more healthy meals and exercising. This is bigger than aesthetics. Your health is wealth. Consider your body is another one of God's gifts He entrusted you to steward. Are you stewarding it well? I recommend putting together a 90 day plan and sticking to it. It takes 21 days to build a habit, 60 days to create a behavior and 90 days to build momentum. You want to work quarter to quarter and there are 4 quarters in a year. With this system, your goals will be simplified and you'll be able to gauge your progress more clearly. Book your Free 15 min consultation with me to go over your goals so we can get you set up on a Coaching Program and 90 day plan.

Cultivate a Mental Fitness Practice

Who knew you could exercise your mind! Mental calisthenics looks like word puzzles but it can be more exciting than that. Go play! Explore! Take on challenges! Push yourself past your limits and step out of your comfort zone! Find at least one new thing to do weekly and DO IT! Go out on the town without your GPS. Cruise baby, cruise! Try a new restaurant, a new workout, a new recipe. Learn a new skill. The goal is to do something NEW! Fasting is also another mental fitness practice. You have to stretch your mind to complete a fast. I'll be the first to tell you it's a challenge.

Final Thoughts | I am Ready for Love

Always remember love starts with the self and self-love is the best love. The same care you give to yourself will be what you share with another. When you love you, you're simply inviting another into what's been cultivated. So of course you'll be ready. But it all starts with you. With all that said, if love did knock on your door right now, would you be ready? Can you answer yes confidently?
