Spirituality | Get Your House in Order

Updated: Sep 27, 2023

Bray Wyatt WWE

The last few days have been hard for me to process. On August 24, 2023, the world lost one of the most creative and brilliant forces ever to exist. Windham Lawrence Rotunda, better known as Bray Wyatt, passed away from a heart attack due to complications from COVID-19 at the young age of 36. He was a third-generation American professional wrestler who was a superstar in the WWE. Among casual fans or those who really don’t watch wrestling, he wasn’t a household name. But, for those who are really into the sport like myself (and yes, by definition, it is a sport), Rotunda was one of the best to ever step into the squared circle.

Obviously, I was a huge fan of his. He was about 6’3”, although he didn’t look that tall on TV. At first glance, you wouldn’t even think there was an ounce of athleticism in the guy’s body as he had a pretty husky build. However, he was very quick and agile, having the ability to go into a full backbend and walk upside down on his hands and feet (a very creepy sight to behold at times).

The Bray Wyatt character he played on TV was a peculiar one. In the world of professional wrestling, the ring entrances of wrestlers and the theme songs that accompany them are everything. Bray Wyatt had one of the most iconic ones. The lights would shut off in the entire arena or stadium. The fans, or “fireflies” as he affectionately called them, would turn on the flashlights of their cell phones. Bray’s theme music would come on. He would slowly walk to the ring with a dimly lit lantern in his hand, blowing it out in the middle of the ring once he entered it. The stadium or arena lights would then come back on, and the crowd would erupt with cheers and applause. The presentation was always awesome.

However, the Bray Wyatt character had a very sinister, dark side to it. Nicknames like “The Eater of Worlds,” “The New Face of Fear,” and “The Fiend” were associated with Bray Wyatt. It was almost like watching something out of a horror film. It’s important to note, though, that Windham Rotunda was the polar opposite of Bray Wyatt. From reading tweets and various posts on social media from different wrestlers and others who knew and worked with him, he was one of the kindest and sweetest people you’d ever want to meet. A lot of people said they would always remember his distinct, infectious laugh and how he was always willing to lend a helping hand and be there for others. Many more talked about his creative genius and how much of a visionary he was.

Additionally, and most importantly, Rotunda was a father to three girls and a boy and was engaged to be married to his longtime girlfriend whom he met some years ago in WWE. Thus, some people made references to how great of a dad he was and how much he loved his fiancée. Ultimately, if you decide to do a Google search on Bray Wyatt after reading this post, you’ll find a plethora of information about him. You’ll see images of his work and his persona in WWE, and to keep it real, you’ll probably be a little creeped out by what you see. But, just keep in mind, his work in WWE was just that. It was his job. And he was very, very good at it. Although I didn't know him personally, from all accounts that have come from those who did, it seems the man behind it all was different; he was a guy you would feel privileged to know.

Final Thoughts | Why You Need to Get Your House in Order

One thing I didn’t hear anyone talk about was whether Windham Rotunda had a relationship with Christ. Of course, just because I didn’t hear anyone mention it doesn’t mean he didn’t have one, so I’m not going to make any assumptions. I can only hope that he was a believer and that he did accept and confess Jesus as his Lord and Savior for if he did not… well, I don’t even have to finish the rest. But that’s really the point of why I’ve decided to write this post. This man’s death was yet another brutal reminder of how short this gift called life is. It was another harsh reality check that tomorrow, next year, or next decade is not promised to us. All we have is today. Right now. The current and present moment. We should not just cherish today and our loved ones and be grateful; we need to get our houses in order.

I’m not talking about the physical houses that we live in because one day we’ll have to leave them for good. I’m talking about our spiritual houses. Our lives. We must get them in order. If you’re on the fence about accepting Christ as your Lord and Savior, ask yourself what do you have to lose. Your quality of life can’t get any worse by inviting Him into your heart and life. Doubt any doubts you may have about Him. Ask Him to help you with any unbelief. Ask Him to forgive your sins and to help you with forgiveness if you have any trouble in that area. If you’ve got beef with somebody, get it straight. Hate and malice in your heart for anyone hurts you the most. The time to fix it is right now. Life is too short. You may not wake up tomorrow. You may not make it until you’re old and gray. The time is NOW! Get it done! Bury your excuses before they bury you! Don’t miss the mark because of your pride or some other foolishness! Your soul is too important to play with. Where you spend eternity is too important to gamble. Be blessed.
