Fruit juice vs soda?! I mean is this really a debate?! Actually, it is! But not for reasons you would think. Today the focus is on sugar intake because if we're honest, the sugar content is equivalent if not more, in fruit juice than in soda. Often when we're trying to make a healthier choice, we go with what sounds healthy. Fruit juice definitely sounds like a better option but not all fruit juices are created equal. Fruit juices made with inorganic or synthetic ingredients are just as dangerous as soda simply because of all the additives. But again, today we're focusing on sugar, although that fact alone could make all the difference in how you select between soda, fruit juice and natural fruit juice. This example includes juice made from only oranges with no additives and yet we see it's heavy in sugar, which if we're clear, is not a bad thing. Sugar from fruit is a natural sweetner opposed to processed sugar which is used in soda. It's comparable to the sugar content you see in sweet potatoes. So the real debate is, is sugar healthy? And to that I say, the right amount of sugar and the right kind. God gave us sugar cane, clearly there has to be health benefits. Sugar can be found in everything from fruits to candy, yet not all sugar is the same. Foods containing natural sugars offer nutrients that keep your body healthy, provide fast yet stable energy, and keep your metabolism stable. Fruits, for instance, offer essential nutrients such as potassium, vitamin C and folate. It's important to note that consuming too much of any type of sugar — even natural sweeteners like honey and maple syrup — could harm your health. Studies show that excess sugar intake may be associated with a higher risk of heart disease, diabetes, weight gain, and Alzheimer's disease, - according to Healthline. So the next time you're choosing between fruit juice and soda, ask yourself which one is more natural, and that's your pick.
