Beauty | Sunscreen Vs No Sunscreen

This should be a no brainer but I recognize it's not, especially for my people of color. Somehow we've been made to believe that our melanated skin doesn't need protection and can't be damaged by the sun. Living in LA, going to the beach very often and sun bathing on the deck of the penthouse I was living in taught me differently. Without the Texas humidity, the sun seemed a lot closer to the earth and me. While my glow was beautiful, my skin was burnt. Two years later I'm still recovering and restoring by exfoliation. Here's why sunscreen is not only a necessity to prevent sun damage but also to prevent dark spots also known as hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles. When you read the label for directions, most sunscreen products state "decreases the risk of skin cancer and early skin aging caused by the sun." If that doesn't sound like "buy me for more youthful skin," I don't know what to tell you. And don't think for a second you're too young to start preserving your youth. I'd recommend starting in your early twenties, if not sooner. So there's really no debate here. We've been taught black doesn't crack but it does burn. We may age gracefully but imagine if we knew to wear and need sunscreen. I can only assume we'd look 50 when we're 100, and that's alright with me.
